The Attack of the Cybermen V

(ROLL OPENING CREDITS)

1. EXT. LONDON - DELTECH BUILDING (DAY)

We pan down from the sky to the DELTECH sign outside the main glass fronted entrance. A single POLICEMAN strolls down the street and then, as if at random, turns and enters through the main doors.

2. EXT. DELTECH RECEPTION (DAY)

A rather generic reception area with a single rather generic female RECEPTIONIST. She looks up as the Policeman strides in with sudden purpose, heading for the lifts, ignoring the receptionist. She runs from behind her desk and towards the Policeman, whose arm snaps out and grabs her by the throat. The Policeman looks dispassionately as her as she starts to choke, frowns, then hurls her across the room with inhuman force. She crashes against a wall and slides to the floor, coughing and sobbing in pain but clearly alive. Not sparing her another glance, the Policeman enters the lift.

3. INT. SEWERS (DAY)

RUSSELL, LYTTON, PAYNE and GRIFFITHS are present as Russell sets the explosives.

PAYNE
We stick together, right?

LYTTON
Of course.

4. INT. MORTIMER'S OFFICE (DAY)

THE DOCTOR and PERI are examining the monitor part of the lash-up.

PERI
You can see through the rift?

DOCTOR
Well, well, well. Someone's on the other side of the rift - and we're looking straight at them.

PERI
That's the big threat? Blue people?!

DOCTOR
Possibly...

5. INT. SEWERS (DAY)

Lytton glares at Russell impatiently.

LYTTON
I'm not giving you my written invitation, Mr Russell.

Russell finally presses the switch.

6. INT. BASEMENT (DAY)

Two UNIT SOLDIERS are thrown to the ground by an explosion as alarm bells ring (and continue to do so in every scene unless stated). Payne steps through the smoke and shoots down one of the soldiers as they struggle to crawl away. Lytton and the others step through the hole broken in the wall. Russell stares at the bodies, visibly shaken.

LYTTON
Did I tell you to open fire, Mr Payne?

Payne looks at Lytton and grins hopefully.

PAYNE
Not... as... such...

LYTTON
No. Not as such.

PAYNE
They had guns, though!

LYTTON
And I was planning on giving them a warning shot.

PAYNE
I didn't know that, Mr Lytton.

LYTTON
If you had waited, you would have found out. Try to contain yourself.

Payne shrugs, and tries to sound sincere.

PAYNE
Alright.

7. INT. MORTIMER'S OFFICE (DAY)

The Doctor and Peri whirl around as the door is kicked in by LARKHILL, followed by SCOTT and MORTIMER. The time travelers immediately raise their hands as the soldiers are both armed.

LARKHILL
What's going on here?!

MORTIMER
What have you done to my computer?!

DOCTOR
Two very good questions- -

SCOTT
Shut it!

8. EXT. FIRST FLOOR FOYER (DAY)

Over a dozen SOLDIERS are rushing around the foyer area that opens onto the rest of the second floor. CARVER has assumed command. They concentrate on the rear of the foyer, as the Policeman emerges from the lift, unsurprised at the activity underway.

CARVER
This is it, lads! Remember, we want him alive! Keep your fire to a minimum!

9. INT. BASEMENT (DAY)

Lytton and Payne run up the stairs. Griffith pauses by them, noticing Russell is still staring at the bodies. Griffiths smacks him on his shoulder, snapping him out of his daze.

GRIFFITHS
Get a move on, you dozy prat!

10. EXT. FIRST FLOOR FOYER (DAY)

Carver turns as the Policeman steps forward, reaching into an inside pocket. Carver is exasperated, rubbing her still-sore head.

CARVER
Yes, we heard the explosion too! Now, this is not a police matter so please...

Carver trails off as the Policeman withdraws a smooth palm-sized cannister. Some of the other soldiers turn around and see the Policeman twist the end and hurl it past Carver at the main group.

CARVER
Grenade! Scatter!

SOLDIER
Bloody hell!

The Policeman is not fussed as the remainder of the soldiers immediately level their guns at him. As the soldiers flee the grenade, a thin stream of white mist starts to waft from the end. Several soldiers fire, but the Policeman barely flinches and reaches into his pocket again. More and more white smoke spews from the first grenade, and the soldiers start to shout and cough.

CARVER
It's gas!

11. INT. MORTIMER'S OFFICE (DAY)

Larkhill pulls out a pair of handcuffs and moves towards them.

LARKHILL
I'll be putting you both in my own custody. Now, maybe you can tell me -

She stops dead when she sees the monitor. Peri follows her gaze.

PERI
Yeah... By the way, do you know how to deal with those?

The monitor shows an endless stream of CYBERMEN marching through a metal framework containing a shimmering blue glow. Larkhill stares at the marching figures in shock.

12. INT. FIRST FLOOR FOYER (DAY)

The Policeman primes the second grenade, swaying slightly as more and more gunfire is aimed at him. The thick smoke is filling the foyer. Several soldiers are collapsing, coughing loudly as the remainder either flee or continue to fire at him.

SOLDIER
What is that thing?!

13. INT. DELTECH SERVICE CORRIDOR

Lytton and the gang emerge from an inconspicuous looking door. There is the sound of gunfire nearby. Lytton, uninterested, crosses to the other side of the corridor and looks around. The others follow, but Russell looks fearfully back towards the noise.

RUSSELL
What's going on?

LYTTON
The diversion I arranged. Now, move.

They run along the corridor towards another stair-well.

14. EXT. FIRST FLOOR FOYER (DAY)

The Policeman holds the second grenade out in front of him, as it spews out more and more gas. The Policeman is unaffected but the last few soldiers are overcome, collapsing in coughs and no longer firing their weapons. The foyer is barely visible through the gas. The Policeman hurls the grenade into the mists and then strides into it, and is lost. Covering her mouth and coughing violently, Carver stumbles out of the fog into the corridor with the lifts and falls to her knees. Behind her, we see all the fallen soldiers are still alive, though deeply unconscious.

15. INT. DELTECH CORRIDOR (DAY)

The Policeman emerges from the mist and strides down the corridor.

16. INT. MORTIMER'S OFFICE (DAY)

As before. Everyone is still staring at the screen.

PERI
What are they?

LARKHILL
Cybermen...

SCOTT
The Cybermen?!

DOCTOR
I'm afraid so.

PERI
That's bad, isn't it?

17. BASEMENT (DAY)

A silver boot steps heavily onto the floor. Then another. We see the CYBERLEADER enter and slowly march over to the stairwell, then turns to face the arriving Cybermen.

CYBERLEADER
All resistance will be overcome. This facility now belongs to us.

(FINISH OPENING CREDITS)
(THE ATTACK OF THE CYBERMEN)
(EPISODE TWO: A COLD WAR)

1. EXT. LONDON - DELTECH BUILDING (DAY)

The alarms can dimly be heard as the building is silhouetted against the midday sky.

2. INT. DELTECH CORRIDOR (DAY)

Carver has collapsed near a doorway, on the verge of passing out. Coughing, she fumbles with her walkie-talkie, peering at it through streaming eyes.

3. INT. MORTIMER'S OFFICE (DAY)

As before. Horrified, Larkhill turns to look at the Doctor.

LARKHILL
You're working for the Cybermen!

DOCTOR
What?! I've never heard anything so ridiculous!

Some more UNIT soldiers arrive in the doorway. Larkhill points to the Doctor.

LARKHILL
He's a traitor!

The soldiers nod, and aim their rifles just as Larkhill and Scott's radios both crackle. Instinctively, they both reach for them and the soldiers are distracted. Seeing this oppurtunity the Doctor reaches forward, grabs Larkhill's gun out of her hand and holds it to her head in one single movement.

SCOTT
What the...

DOCTOR
What do I have to do to get a cup of tea around here, mmm?!

Peri stares at him fearfully.

PERI
Doctor, what the hell are you doing?!

He frowns and glances at her.

DOCTOR
I've got a gun against this young lady's head, Peri. I would have thought it was obvious.

The soldiers raise their rifles again but Scott waves them down.

SCOTT
Don't shoot, you might hit the Captain!

LARKHILL
Damn it, Scott, take the chance!

DOCTOR
See? Told you she had a death wish.

LARKHILL
Do it, Scott, he's a madman!

The Doctor is upset.

DOCTOR
I am not! You've just caught me on a bad day, that's all!

PERI
Doctor, seriously...

DOCTOR
"Seriously", Peri, there is a main phalanx of Cybermen in the London sewers, this building is under attack, a rift in the fabric of time and pace and Miss Paranoid Insanity here wants to have us shot! This is not a time for subtlety, is it? Now I have your attention, I think I can explain...

4. INT. DELTECH CORRIDOR (DAY)

Carver has recovered slightly and speaks weakly into the radio.

CARVER
Is anyone receiving this? I repeat...

5. INT. MORTIMER'S OFFICE (DAY)

The Mexican stand off continues, and Peri has moved out of the firing line and stands by the antique vase next to the potplant. There is silence bar the strained and weak voice of Carver is heard over Larkhill's RT. Mortimer is looking unwell.

CARVER (VO)
...rogue agents have entered the building... ground floor is...

SCOTT
There's more of them!

DOCTOR
It's Lytton, making his move.

SCOTT
Then we have to get down there fast!

DOCTOR
But it could the Cybermen instead - and if it is, I'm the only man that can help you.

LARKHILL
I doubt it! Scott, I order you to shoot him!

The Doctor rolls his eyes and instantly swings the gun to cover Scott, who takes a step backwards. The Time Lord is grinning and a crazed look is in his eye. He still holds Larkhill with his free hand.

DOCTOR
You can't shoot me if I shoot you first!

PERI
Doctor! Nobody has to shoot anyone!

SCOTT
You so much as move to pull that trigger you'll get six bullets, 'Doctor'!

DOCTOR
Six! My lucky number!

SCOTT
I am being serious!!

DOCTOR
And I am well past being impressed by men like you, "Sergeant"!

The Doctor lets out a truly unhinged laugh. Scott, now perspiring, turns to the soldiers.

SCOTT
Get out of here, I can handle him myself! Get to the lower levels, find out what's going on.

The other soldiers nod and quickly leave the room. Mortimer staggers after them.

6. INT. CORRIDOR OUTSIDE OFFICE (DAY)

The soldiers run off, but Mortimer cannot keep up. He collapses against a door and slides to the floor, clawing at his tie, looking very pale.

MORTIMER
My god... I can't breathe! I CAN'T BREATHE!

He slumps back, hyperventilating.

7. INT. DELTECH STAIRWELL (DAY)

Lytton, followed by his gang, run up the stairs. There is a door just ahead of them, that they clearly mean to pass. Russell gives a surreptitious look, and raises his gun. He seems to be aiming it at Lytton's back.

8. INT. MORTIMER'S OFFICE (DAY)

The Doctor and Scott continue to aim at each other.

PERI
Doctor, please. Just think. Think about what you're doing and calm down.

DOCTOR
I am not having a fit, Peri.

SCOTT
You have fits?!

Larkhill's eyes widen in panic.

LARKHILL
Just shoot, Scott!

9. INT. DELTECH STAIRWELL (DAY)

Lytton turns the doorhandle and carefully opens the door a crack. Russell looks determined.

10. INT. MORTIMER'S OFFICE (DAY)

The Doctor, unafraid, continues to aim at Scott as he tenses himself.

LARKHILL
Do it! Right between his sodding eyes!

Scott takes a deep breath...

11. INT. DELTECH STAIRWELL (DAY)

We see the barrel of a gun being fired, then see Lytton, Griffiths and Payne whirl around in shock to see Russell seemingly trying to control his gun as it goes off, firing at the ceiling. The noise is very loud.

12. INT. MORTIMER'S OFFICE (DAY)

As we hear the second gunshot, Peri picks up the vase from the table.

13. INT. DELTECH STAIRWELL (DAY)

Lytton and the gang look back at the open doorway in shock.

SOLDIER (VO)
Did you hear that?

Payne turns to look at Russell in disgust.

14. INT. MORTIMER'S OFFICE (DAY)

Peri, now holding the vase above her head, steps forward. The Doctor, Larkhill and Scott do not notice as they are focussed on each other.

15. INT. DELTECH STAIRWELL (DAY)

Payne slams the butt of his rifle into Russell's head, knocking him out cold.

16. INT. MORTIMER'S OFFICE (DAY)

Peri suddenly brings down the vase over the Doctor's head. The Doctor collapses face-first on the floor, releasing Larkhill as the gun falls from his hand and skitters over the floor. Scott immediately trains the gun on Peri who raises her hands. She is almost hysterical.

PERI
For the love of God, we're on your side!

Scott doesn't fire, but looks to Larkhill who shakes her head, still shaken.

PERI
If you want to deal with the bad guys then they're downstairs! Right now!

LARKHILL
Yes... Scott, get down there. Find out what's going on. Any sign of Cybermen, evacuate.

Scott nods and runs out.

SCOTT
Ma'am.

Larkhill calls after him.

LARKHILL
And if Lytton is inside, you'd better not be so squeamish with him!

17. DELTECH STAIRWELL (DAY)

The gang have moved down the stairwell, around Russell's crumpled form. He groans, and Payne hurriedly crouches down and covers his mouth. Griffiths keeps watch on the door above as Lytton broods. They exchange whispers.

GRIFFITHS
What'd you hit him for?

PAYNE
He's a bleedin' liability! He could have shot me in the back!

LYTTON
Dare I even to dream?

PAYNE
You what?

They hear footsteps and muffled voices coming from beyond the door.

LYTTON
Mr Payne, do you consider yourself strong, capable, and dependable?

Payne nods.

LYTTON
Then you can handle this yourself.

Payne grins nastily and skips up the steps towards he doors. Lytton and Griffiths head down the steps and out of view.

18. INT. MORTIMER'S OFFICE (DAY)

Peri watches as Larkhill kneels over the Doctor. She has handcuffed his right ankle and handcuffs the other end around one of the legs of Mortimer's desk. Alarms continue to blare in the background.

PERI
That's not necessary...

LARKHILL
I think it us.

PERI
You can trust us!

LARKHILL
I don't trust ANYONE, miss. Not until I can be sure what they want. Amd you two have left me clueless. So stay in here, and do your best to keep him with you. We wouldn't want him to be accidentally caught in the crossfire, would we?

Larkhill snatches up her gun and runs out of the office. Peri sighs and shakes the Doctor's shoulder, trying to wake him up.

PERI
And the English always seemed so nice on TV.

19. INT. DELTECH STAIRWELL (DAY)

Payne is crouched in hiding beside the door. It suddenly opens and a curious UNIT corporal steps through, peering down the steps. Payne jumps up, slamming the door against the soldier, trapping him in the doorway. Payne then pulls back the door, grabs the dazed man and hurls him forwards. The soldier tumbles down the steps.

20. EXT. DELTECH TESTING FLOOR (DAY)

A large, warehouse-sized chamber, used for the testing of Deltech's technology, deserted at present. There are a few devices scattered around but for the most part they are obscured by dust-covers. Lytton moves speedily through the room, followed by Griffiths who looks around anxiously as he struggles to keep up.

LYTTON
There's a stairwell on the other side - with any luck, that should be empty. Once we're done here, we'll head up that way.

GRIFFITHS
But what about Joe?

LYTTON
What about him?

Griffiths doesn't know how to reply to that.

GRIFFITHS
Well, he's a mate.

LYTTON
If things go to plan, he'll be able to follow us.

GRIFFITHS
And if they don't?

LYTTON
Then he'll be dead. We live in an imperfect universe, Mr Griffiths.

They approach the far door on the other side of the chamber.

GRIFFITHS
This is getting messy, boss.

LYTTON
Then it is time to tidy it up.

Lytton stops as footsteps become audible from beyond the door. Lytton turns and indicates to Griffiths, and they split up. Lytton hides behind a dust-sheeted shape on one side of the room, while Griffiths takes one on the other side. The door edges open, and Scott cautiously emerges, followed by two soldiers. Scott makes a gesture to the other soldiers and, ducking low, they start to move out. Lytton watches from hiding, face as impassive as ever.

21. INT. DELTECH STAIRWELL (DAY)

Payne casually moves down the steps towards the body of the soldier, still conscious. As he tries to get back up, Payne grins and aims the machine gun. Then, he opens fire.

22. EXT. DELTECH TESTING FLOOR (DAY)

The gunfire can be made out over the alarms. Scott straightens up as he hears it.

SCOTT
That came from the other side! Come on, lads!

Scott and his soldiers sprint towards the entrance that the criminals used to enter the floor, but as they reach the half-way-point, Lytton and Griffiths rise up from out of cover, guns ready and aimed.

LYTTON
Far enough, I think, Sergeant!

The group skids to a halt, realizing they are trapped.

LYTTON
Drop your guns.

The soldiers do not move. Lytton cocks his gun.

SOLDIER
Sir?

Scott looks miserable.

SCOTT
Do as he says.

Scott drops his own rifle by way of example. The rest of his men follow suit. Lytton smiles at them.

LYTTON
Very sensible.

Behind them, the door Scott used opens again, and Larkhill sticks her head out. Seeing the situation, she scowls and ducks back inside, closing the door silently.

23. INT. DELTECH STAIRWELL (DAY)

The Cybermen march up the steps at the basement and towards the next floor. We see their POV - everything is pixelated, marked out in vivid purple and yellow as they reach the door.

24. INT. MORTIMER'S OFFICE (DAY)

A worried-looking Peri shakes the Doctor, to no avail, but he remains unconscious.

PERI
Come on, Doctor! Wake up! You can do it!

The Doctor groans.

DOCTOR
Anton... think about what you're doing... You can't be Russia's most elusive literary bachelor and get married...

PERI
Doctor!

DOCTOR
Tuberculosis? Nonesene. Just need a bit of clean living. Have a cup of tea. Very good. Grows at 5000 feet above sea level like all the best...

He stops suddenly and opens his eyes.

DOCTOR
Peri! What do you think you're doing?!

Peri smiles hopefully.

PERI
Trying to wake you up?

DOCTOR
And why was I not awake already? You hit me over the head with a vase!

PERI
I'm sorry! But, you see, everyone had guns and you were freaking out...

The Doctor sits up, rubbing his head.

DOCTOR
Don't worry about it, Peri. I'm fine.

He pulls chunks of pottery from his curly hair and examines it glumly.

DOCTOR
Can't say the same for that ex-antiquity, though. Han Dynasty. Beyond value. Still beyond value now, but not in a good way. Never mind, nothing to worry about.

PERI
But I am worried!

DOCTOR
Why?

PERI
Because everyone in this building has a gun and they're not afraid to use them!

DOCTOR
That is worrying. Still, you can leave that to me...

He tries to move, but can't.

PERI
Oh yeah. And Miss Paranoid Insanity handcuffed your ankle to the table.

DOCTOR
I don't suppose you stole her key or anything useful like that.

PERI
Sorry.

DOCTOR
Wonderful. Well, there are only two solutions that I can think of.

PERI
Would one of them involve staying here and letting the professionals sort this all out for us?

DOCTOR
Not really, no. There are Cybermen in the sewers, Lytton on a rampage and that madwoman will lead UNIT into something it can't possibly cope with without my help, so waiting is out of the question.

PERI
OK. So what are our options?

DOCTOR
Well, I could adapt an idea of an old friend of mine, a Spartan chap called Hegisistratus of Elis. When he got caught in this sort of situation he escaped by chopping his foot off.

Peri speaks as if to a child.

PERI
Isn't that a bit drastic?

The Doctor shrugs.

DOCTOR
Suppose so. There is the other option.

PERI
Which is?

DOCTOR
Magic.

PERI
You said there's no such thing as magic.

DOCTOR
Ah, but that all depends on what sort of magic one is referring to, doesn't it?

With no effort, the Doctor kicks his leg and Peri sees it is no longer attached to the handcuff, which is now empty. She stares at it.

PERI
Magic?

DOCTOR
The Houdini brand.

Grinning, he jumps to his feet.

25. INT. CORRIDOR OUTSIDE OFFICE (DAY)

The Doctor strides out of the office and down the corridor, followed by Peri.

DOCTOR
Now, which way did Larkhill go?

PERI
She said we should stay here out of the firing line!

DOCTOR
She also said that we were in league with the Cybermen! Are you honestly going to trust the judgement of a woman who would think that of us and tell someone to shoot me "right between the sodding eyes"? Me!

He bangs his fist against the wall.

DOCTOR
AFTER ALL I'VE DONE FOR THIS MISERABLE PLANET!

PERI
Doctor, calm down!

DOCTOR
I AM CALM! I JUST HAPPEN TO BE FURIOUS AT THE SAME TIME!

He looks down and sees Mortimer huddled in the doorway, curled up and fearful. The Doctor instantly relaxes.

DOCTOR
Hello.

The Doctor crouches down beside him, as does Peri.

PERI
What's wrong with him?

DOCTOR
Some kind of panic attack. Are you all right, old chap?

Mortimer flinches.

MORTIMER
Keep away! Don't touch me!

The Doctor holds up his hands placatingly.

DOCTOR
All right, all right. You're safe. Concentrate on breathing. Peri, you look after this poor fellow. I'll go downstairs and see what the United Nations Intellectual Vacuum are up to.

He starts to rise, but Peri stops him.

PERI
You can't do that!

DOCTOR
All right. I'll stay with him and you can go downstairs.

PERI
Oh very funny.

DOCTOR
I'll be fine, Peri. Just got used to this body, it's only warming up. Not going to lose it any time soon. And if you happen to bump into anyone tall, dark, lean, happy to shoot his own grandmother just to keep his trigger finger supple and answering to the name of "Lytton"...

Peri swallows, nervously.

PERI
Yeah?

DOCTOR
Duck.

He waves and runs off to the end of the corridor.

PERI
Whatever you do, stay calm!

DOCTOR
Peri, if I was any calmer I'd be a dead man.

Peri shakes her head.

PERI
You're just asking for trouble, saying things like that.

26. EXT. DELTECH TESTING FLOOR (DAY)

Scott and the soldiers are kneeling on the floor to one side, hands behind their head. Griffiths keeps them under guard but looks up as the door they came through opens and Payne runs in. Blood is splashed on his jumper - not his own.

GRIFFITHS
Joe!

Lytton crosses to Griffiths and takes his gun.

LYTTON
Mr Griffiths. Help Mr Payne barricade the door.

Griffiths crosses to help Payne slam the door and bar it while Lytton guards the others. Meanwhile, Larkhill takes her chance and moves from the door to behind the nearest covered piece of machinery.

SCOTT
Not very professional, using your names like that. Now we can identify you.

LYTTON
It also means I have the perfect excuse to kill you all since you know too much.

SCOTT
Then why haven't you?

LYTTON
There's no need to state the obvious, sergeant.

SCOTT
It's not obvious to me.

LYTTON
Believe me, sergeant. You don't want to know.

Griffiths and Payne step back, having smashed the lock and moved trolleys and few chairs to make up a barricade.

PAYNE
That should keep them out for the moment.

GRIFFITHS
Who are these blokes, anyway?

PAYNE
They look army.

LYTTON
They are. And they're here for me.

GRIFFITHS
For you?

LYTTON
Yes, Mr Payne. For me.

Griffiths glances at Scott's abandoned beret.

GRIFFITHS
"UNIT"? That M15 lot what's always on the news?

Lytton smiles slightly.

LYTTON
I told you we were big business.

PAYNE
Ruddy hell...

As they talk, the Doctor quietly slips in through the far door, and ducks to Larkhill's hiding spot. He manages to get right behind her without her noticing.

DOCTOR
Everything going smoothly, Captain?

Larkhill spins around and points her gun at him. The Doctor sighs.

LARKHILL
You!

DOCTOR
Let's not go through this again.

LARKHILL
If Lytton wasn't so close, you'd be dead right now!

DOCTOR
My word, you really are serious, aren't you?

Larkhill cocks the pistol and shoves it right into the Doctor's face.

DOCTOR
I'll take that as a yes.

LARKHILL
Smart decision.

Meanwhile, Griffiths throws the beret to the floor.

GRIFFITHS
Well, whoever they are, are we gonna tie 'em up, boss?

PAYNE
I say we shoot 'em.

GRIFFITHS
What? Why?!

PAYNE
They're dead meat anyway.

LYTTON
Your memory is failing you again, Mr Payne, I told you. Mr Griffiths, tie them up.

Grateful, Griffiths rests his rifle and takes some rope out of his bag, and moves to tie the hands of one of the soldiers behind his back.

PAYNE
Mr Lytton, this is takin' time we don't have. What if the Old Bill turn up?

LYTTON
You expect a uniformed policeman to just walk in here?

PAYNE
Could be here any moment!

Lytton smiles to himself.

LYTTON
How perceptive. If needs must, Mr Payne, you do have my permission to shoot them. Until that time, I suggest you stop trying my patience.

27. INT. DELTECH SERVICE CORRIDOR (DAY)

A gloomier, seldom used section. The alarms can barely be heard. The Policeman strides down the corridor, heading straight for a heavy door marked SEWER ACCESS. The Policeman pauses, as if hearing something, and looks down the side corridor. Nothing. The Policeman advances on the door and pushes it open, to reveal a Cyberman holding its tubular rifle. The Policeman smoothly draws his pistol and takes a step backwards, as another Cyberman appears at the end of the corridor and another appears at the side corridor. They close in on the Policeman, who turns to face the Cyberman in the doorway who snatches the gun from the Policeman's hand and effortlessly crushes it to scrap, and drops it to the floor. The two other Cybermen grab the Policeman's arms.

CYBERMAN
This fleshman was attempting to enter the sewer system.

CYBERLIEUTENANT
It is not the specified target.

The Lieutenant steps closer. Zoom in on its eye hole complete with tear drop. We see the POV of the Lieutenant: the pixelated face of the Policeman is blurring, transparent to reveal the distinctive silver face underneath. Normal view.

CYBERLIEUTENANT
This fleshman is an android facsimile.

CYBERMAN
We have no use for androids.

CYBERLIEUTENANT
This technology is advanced and may be compatible with ours. Dismantle the android and take the parts back to the Outpost for analysis and assimilation.

The Liuetenant reaches out and almost tenderly places its hands around the sides of the Policeman's head, cupping his impassive face while the other two Cybermen raise the captive's arms and pull. The Liuetenant's hands lift upwards and the face twists in agony, as the Policeman lets out an inhuman electronic wail and begins to sparkle and flare. It begins to flicker between its Policeman disguise and its true form - its arms blurring and changing as the Cybermen continue to haul. The android becomes dominant, still sparking as the Lieutenant effortlessly hauls upwards, ripping the screaming android head and torso out of the body seconds before both arms are ripped from their sockets. Sparks and explosions gut the body, blowing out of its abdomen unit as the armless, headless android collapses heavily. As the scream fades to silence, the shimmering sparks fade away.

- to be continued...
